The students have returned after the summer and are looking forward to the new term. We welcome 7 new students to the Student Centre this year so are now 17 in number!
We also welcome Mrs Gardiner, Mrs Strange and Mrs Cullinan who have joined the staff this year.
The students are getting used the new routine in the Student Centre as it is really quite different to the main school. This term’s accreditation is focusing on Household Shopping – we cook our own lunches every day so go each Monday to shop for the ingredients and Accessing Leisure Services – we investigate how we can use the facilities in our local communities.
We enjoy showing off our skills to friends and parents/carers and we hope to invite them in for a lunch this term. We will also continue with our regular coffee mornings and it is good to see new and regular faces.
Now that the horticulture project is up and running we are looking forward to being involved in further development and also the day to day running. Two students have the responsibility of opening and closing the polytunnel and shed and also ensuring resources are ready each morning for the classes who will be using the facility. All students water and weed as necessary and we are looking forward to planting more vegetables to cook and eat at lunchtime. Last year we grew potatoes, tomatoes, beetroot, squash, peas, runner beans, chard, rhubarb, onions and garlic!
We will also be investigating where we can go for our Christmas trip – last year’s visit to the German market in Birmingham proved very popular but we are looking at lots of other ideas too! Another busy term!!
