Student Centre January 2018
Another busy term is planned with the students attending the Propeller project at Abingdon and Witney college – the focus this term will be Mother’s day and Easter.
Some students will continue to offer a takeaway service to staff. They will continue to offer meal deals for lunches (sandwich/baguette/wrap/homemade soup/toasted sandwich, fruit and healthy cereal bar), This has proved a successful venture and profits will be sent to Charity at the end of the year. We are already thinking of a charity we would like to support this year.
We will continue with coffee mornings and the students are hoping to repeat their Mother’s Day lunch where they cooked their mums a meal as a way of saying thank you for all they do!
The students use their skills and knowledge gained from going to the horticulture project at Common Leys to help with the horticulture facility on the main school site. Students are involved with the day to day running, open and close the polytunnel each day, keep an idea of resources and when we need to order more, help at gardening cluband look after plants where necessary. We also continue to grow our own vegetables to use when we cook our lunches.
Some students will be attending an e.safety course – a 5 week course (one morning a week) when they will be learning how to keep themselves safe when using social media. They will explore the issues through improvisation, story telling, music, dance and visual arts,
The Year 13 and 14 students are planning some fundraising activities in order to contribute to our trip to centre Parcs in Holland in June – car washing seems to be top of the list at the moment!
The students continue to work on their accreditation with the leavers starting to complete final evaluations before their files are submitted to the examining board. Our leavers are also beginning to think about their future placements and will be visiting a range of establishments. An exciting but apprehensive time for them!
