Fitzwaryn School Eco-Committee is committed to reducing waste, saving energy and generally making the school as environmentally friendly as possible. Our committee includes representatives from each class in the school and meet once a term to discuss and plan ahead. We are working towards the Green Flag award issued by the Eco-Schools officiating body. Within our committee we have sub-groups responsible for four main areas: Energy; Water; Waste and Transport. The Energy and Water teams have been taking meter readings supported by Mr Mike Charlton, our school site manager; based on the findings of these we have been able to plan ahead on how we can be more efficient. The waste team have been carrying out regular recycling audits of classroom and have recorded which classes are the most waste neutral; they have then been able to advise school staff on which materials should be recycled. The transport team are conducting a survey into the different modes of transport everyone uses to travel to school in order to provide an overview of our combined carbon footprint. We are a fairly new committee but the members have already shown great enthusiasm and commitment to improving our eco credentials.
