Sixth Form students at Fitzwaryn School have marked Remembrance Day by creating a temporary art installation at the front of the school. Dozens of poppies crafted from recycled plastic bottles adorn a camouflaged cargo net draped over an outside decking area. A solitary silhouette of a soldier stands in the doorway. Planned to be visible from the Denchworth Road, students have been secretly working on the design since seeing footage of the poppies installation at the Tower of London from a few years ago. The project was unveiled this week as residents from Stirlings Care Home in Wantage joined the sixth formers for lunch as part of the intergenerational links that have been forged over the past 12 months.
The 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day is also being marked as students consider the impact of adding colour to black and white images from the First World War.
